Washington: We have seen Apple is on back foot since the launch of Samsung Galaxy S3, but still Apple is most favorite smartphone in America.
In th year-end Zeitgeist released by Google, iPhone 5s emerged as the fifth most trending searches in the U.S. in 2013. Incidentally, it was the only consumer electronic device/gadget to take it to the top 10 list.
Globally, people also Googled for Samsung Galaxy S4 and the PlayStation 4, which secured the eighth and ninth spots respectively in the Global Trending Searches of 2013 list, but they were absent in the U.S. list.
Earlier this month, Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley also said in a research note to clients that in the September through November period, iPhone 5s dominated the sales charts of the top four wireless carriers in the U.S. The iPhone 5s, which introduced fingerprint sensor on smartphones for the first time, was “by far the top selling smartphone…at most channels where the smartphone launched globally,” Walkley said.
While it’s true that Android is currently leading iOS in the smartphone race in terms of volume sales, iPhone will continue to be the single most popular brand in the U.S. Asymco analyst Horace Dediu projected recently that iPhone’s presence will continue to grow in the coming years and, by 2017, 68 percent of the U.S. population that are older than 13 years of age, or about 180 million U.S. smartphone users will own iPhones.
Anything can happen between now and 2017, but it’s unlikely that iPhone will see its popularity nosedive. Why? Try watching this holiday TV commercial below without tears welling up in your eyes.
