Taipei: HTC is planning to make an early impact in the next year with its upcoming device HTC M8.

The device is said to the successor of HTC One. Company has been trying to keep its upcoming successor to the HTC One under lock and key, but the smartphone’s specs have reportedly surfaced in an AnTuTu benchmark report.

2013 was a year that saw HTC finally make a comeback and remind the world why it was chosen to build other companies’ devices and then decided to use its know-how under its own brand. The HTC One was the perfect smartphone for HTC to begin its comeback.

It brought great specs worthy of the flagship title, such as a 4.7-inch Full HD 1080p display, a case made out of anodized aluminum, the best sounding audio, and the company’s UltraPixel camera, which got high marks for its imaging quality.

HTC is preparing to release the HTC One’s successor, which is currently called by its code name, HTC M8 (the HTC One was called the M7). The smartphone has reportedly shown up on an AnTuTu benchmark that supposedly reveals the HTC M8′s specs.

The benchmark lists the device as HTC M8 (HTC 0P6B120) running Android 4.4 KitKat. The processor is listed as a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974AB, currently the top high-end quad-core processor. It also has an upgraded Adreno 330 GPU (graphics processing unit). The handset is sporting a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution Full HD display and its cameras are listed as 4-megapixel and 2.1-megapixel (HTC’s camera technology doesn’t focus on high megapixels). It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM or internal storage.

The HTC M8 scored very well in its benchmarks and the results seem to almost confirm that this is the next HTC One.  HTC isn’t expected to announce the smartphone until the end of February. The company is rumored to make an official unveiling at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona, Spain in late February, just as it did with the HTC One last year. HTC is also looking to try and capture the impressive award it won at the conference last year for the HTC One, “Best Mobile Device.”

We’ll have to file this in the rumor category for now, but those specs definitely make it one impressive smartphone to look forward to next year.
