Pakistan will look to scale the hockey summit in Asia once again and in the process earn themselves a place in the 2014 FIH World Cup as the 9th men’s Asia Cup gets going on the astro-turf in Ipoh, Malaysia, from August 24.
Pakistani fans back home will look at nothing less than a top finish on the podium this time with a World Cup qualification at stake for the continental champions from Asia.
Pakistan had a chance to qualify for the World Cup with a top three finish in the FIH Hockey World League in Rotterdam. But the team returned with a poor seventh place in the event, which now leaves them with just one last chance in Ipoh to sneak into the 2014 World Cup to be held at The Hague, Netherlands.
