KARACHI: Pakistan Navy observed the Defence of Pakistan Day with due solemnity and reverence at headquarters Comkar in KARACHI. The day is observed to commemorate supreme sacrifices of our heroes who stood to the challenge and defeated a much bigger enemy during 1965 Indo-Pak war.
In his message, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila paid rich tribute to Ghazis and Shuhuda and said that Pakistan Navy held an unchallenged supremacy at sea throughout the September war and made the Nation proud.

He said that today Pakistan Navy is faced with multifarious internal and external challenges. A phenomenal naval build up by our arch rival maritime boundary dispute in Sir Creek area and fulfillment of other obligations at sea, warrant a strong Navy to safeguard Pakistan’s maritime interests with renowned vigour. Pakistan Navy has now transformed itself to become a reckonable force. It has largely indigenized warships’ and submarines’ construction, extended its reach and power to the far extents of the Indian Ocean and is an important player in region’s collaborative maritime security.
Pakistan Navy is fully equipped to meet all kind of challenges that exist across the maritime threat spectrum, he added.
The day dawned with special prayers in all naval mosques for solidarity and integrity of the country. Quran Khwanis were also held for eternal peace of Shuhuda.
Wreath laying ceremonies were held at Shuhuda’s memorials at Pakistan Navy Dockyard. Commander Submarines laid wreath and offered Fateha at the monument built in memory of martyrs of submarine Ghazi at PNS ABDOZE.
Managing Director PN Dockyard also laid wreath and offered Fateha at the memorial built in commemoration of PN Dockyard workers who were martyred during 1971 Indo-Pak war. Inter Services wreath laying ceremony was also held at Mazar-e-Quaid.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at all Pakistan Navy units and establishments and Chief of the Naval Staff “Order of the Day” was read out. Commanding Officers of all units and establishments addressed special gatherings of officers and men and highlighted significance of the day. All ships and establishments were decorated and illuminated in accordance with naval traditions.
