Saeed Ajmal: Pakistan’s magical spinner seems restless for ICC top award 2013

KARACHI: Globally famous Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal seemed very confident and equally restless for winning the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s ‘Best ODI Player of the Year’ 2013 award after being nominated in the shortlisted players.

Saeed Ajmal expressed his extreme disappointment after being neglected in the 2012’s shortlisted players for the ICC award despite triggering outstanding performance in the previous year by getting 72 wickets, Express Tribune reported.

However, Cricketer Ajmal has been shortlisted by the ICC’s higher authorities over his consecutive performance by collecting 41 wickets during 21 One Day International (ODI) matches between the duration of 2012 till 25 August 2013.

Saeed Ajmal is not alone amongst the nominated players’ of 2013 as his Pakistani teammate and skipper Misbah-ul-Haq also present in the list.

While being interviewed by the local newspaper, Ajmal said that he feels extreme happiness for being including in the shortlisted players and hoped for winning the trophy.

He added that it was the grievous moment for him when he was completely neglected by the top cricket council in last year, however, he showed visible confident for bagging the award as well as said that winning an award is an honour for each cricketer.

It should be mentioned here that the Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) had recorded its protest over the ICC’s negligence by boycotting the award ceremony in 2012 as well as gifted the National Award to the spinner in order to praise its player’s performance.

The Pakistani spinner also commented on his future plans for upcoming United Arab Emirates (UAE) series 2013-14 against Sri Lanka comprising of ODIs, T20s and Tests.

He expressed willingness for possessing a prominent role in the Pakistani team’s victory via his performance as well as focusing on the Best Bowler of the Year award in 2013’s end.
