TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud among 5 killed in US drone strike in Miranshah

PESHAWAR: Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the banned terrorist outfit, chief Hakimullah Mehsud and four others were killed in a US drone strike North Waziristan tribal region of the couuntry bordering Afghanistan, sources said

The fresh unmanned drone strike has hit a compound in Danday Darpakhel area of the agency just a day before Pakistan government was scheduled to send its delegation to hold  talks with the banned outfit.

It was also the second drone strike since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the US last month.

Taliban sources have also confirmed that death of Mehsud the attack and said that the funneral of the leader would be held in Miranshah at 3 PM on Satuday. “The drone fired first missile on house while second on a vehile.”

They further said that Mehsud was in the vehicle when the US targeted him. “His allies were moving him to hospital but he succumbed to his injures.”

They said that besides Mehsud his bodyguard Tariq Mehsud and driver Abdullah Mehsud were also among the killed.

There was no official word on the killing of Mehsud. This would be the latest in a string of setbacks for the top leadership of the Taliban and al-Qaeda, who have been repeatedly targeted by US drones in the tribal belt.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called up Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and a host of political leaders to discuss the fallout of today’s strike.

He claimed the strikes were aimed at sabotaging efforts for establishing peace in the country. “A delegation was about to be sent to talk to Taliban tomorrow (Saturday),” he said.
