Maithripala Sirisena will meet President and Prime Minister today

ISLAMABAD: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has arrived Islamabad on a three-day visit to Pakistan on Sunday. Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif welcomed the Sri Lankan President at the airport. On the occasion, PM’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz was also present along with several other dignitaries.

He will hold talks with President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today.

Sri Lanka’s new President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Pakistan on Sunday for a three-day state visit, after making his first overseas trip as leader to India.

A 21-gun salute was presented to the visiting dignitary at the airport on his arrival.

Sri Lankan President is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of the President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The visit will open new avenues of cooperation between the two countries.

Earlier Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Karachi on Sunday and later on arrived in Islamabad on special plane of PIA. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah received him at Karachi airport.

Sri Lankan President will meet President Mamnoon Hussain, and discuss bilateral relations. President will host a state banquet in honour of Sri Lankan President.

The Sri Lankan President is also scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on ways to further promote bilateral relations. Regional and international issues will also come under discussion.

The two sides will also sign a number of Memorandum of Understandings and agreements to promote bilateral cooperation in various sectors with focus on trade.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy friendly and cordially relations. Being members of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and Common Wealth, the two countries coordinate with each other on issues of common interest, regional and international concern
