70pc Punjab gas supply to be restored by Tuesday: SNGPL

LAHORE: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Managing Director Arif Hameed has said that 70 per cent of the gas supply to the Punjab province will be restored by Tuesday.

Talking to a private news television, Hameed said the explosions on the gas pipelines have affected the supply to the whole province, adding that the supply to the industry of the province has also been suspended.

The MD said the province was being supplied 1150 million cubic feet gas against the demand of 1700 million cubic feet prior to the attacks, adding that the Sunday’s explosions have cut additional 700 million cubic feet gas to the province.

“The province is being supplied only 450 million cubic feet gas.”

He demanded the masses to use the gas for cooking purposes only and avoid heaters and geezers.

Hameed said the technical experts and equipment have been called in to repair the lines within shortest possible time. “Around 70-80 per cent of the work would be completed by tomorrow.”

He said investigations are being carried out to know the cause of the explosions.

On Sunday, three gas pipelines were exploded near Sikandarabad village in Rahim Yar Khan.

The explosions suspended the supply to both residential and commercial consumers in major cities of the province including Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Lahore, Faisalabad suspended.
