Eleven Pakistani teachers to attend UNT-NUML fellowship program at University of North Texas

NUML-TeachersISLAMABAD: A group of 11 selected faculty members of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) will soon be leaving for University of North Texas (UNT) to attend a 40-day long UNT-NUML Research Fellowship program at UNT, America.

It was announced during a ceremony where the four (4) male and seven (7) female faculty members of English Studies Department of NUML were handed over the tickets and health insurance cards by the Rector Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan.

Introducing about the program, Registrar (also the Project Director of NUML-UNT Partnership program from NUML’s side) Brig (R) Saeed Akhtar Malik told that said group of faculty members was at advanced stage of their MPhil and PhD programs and would conduct their dissertations under the supervision of an American supervisor at UNT. Moreover, they would observe graduate and under graduate classes studying research, had extensive interactive session with their supervisors for their own dissertations and research articles and participate in cultural events under this Partnership-Fellowship program, he added.

Talking to faculty members, Rector Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan said “this would be an appropriate opportunity to learn and assimilate new teaching, learning and research approaches at UNT as well as share the knowledge of the distinct features of your culture, society and nation with them”.

Prof Dr Masood Ashraf Raja, Project Director UNT-NUML partnership program, said that more number of females in the group was an added advantage to project that Pakistani nation was highly interested and motivated in education and particularly in women education. Moreover, such a qualified group of faculty members would also be imparting knowledge to those at UNT, who had different impression and perception regarding Pakistan.

This program will enhance and upgrade NUML’ research program and will provide an opportunity to examine the research perspective of the scholars from both universities which will create an understanding of the prevalent issues in both countries in areas of research besides facilitating cultural exchange.

Earlier to this development, four phases including selection of faculty members for fellowship program at UNT, In-house faculty development training sessions by UNT faculty, 2-day long workshops on various areas of English Studies for faculty members, establishment of writing resource centre and acquisition of data base for NUML library, have been completed under NUML-UNT Partnership program.

In the end Rector Maj Gen Masood Hasan and Prof Dr Masood Ashraf Raja distributed tickets and health insurance cards among the faculty members. The ceremony was also attended by Director General Brig Azam Jamal, Director Academics Col (R) Syed Jawaid Ahmad and other officials of the university.
