Finally Akram Lahori executed at Kot Lakhpat Jail

LAHORE: Akramul Haq alias Akram Lahori has been executed at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, local media reported on Saturday.  

Lahori was convicted and sentenced to death in 2001 by a special anti-terrorism court of Faisalabad over charges of murdering an innocent citizen.

Earlier, he was scheduled to be executed in on January 8 but his lawyers moved to get a stay order against the execution just hours before the scheduled time.

According to reports, his counsel and brother of Ikramul Haq reached the jail hours before the hanging and submitted the pardon by the aggrieved party’ to stay the execution hours before the scheduled time.

They said Akram Lahori was someone else and that there was only one murder case against Akramul Haq.

On 12th of the month, Anti terrorist court of Faisalabad had cancelled compromise deed of death penalty convicted Akram Ul Haq alias Lahori which were agreed between families of deceased and convicted.

The family members of deceased did not appear before the court to record statement regarding the compromise deed.

As many as 20 terrorists had been hanged so far since December 19, following Peshawar Army Public School attack which killed 150 people including 134 children.
