KASUR: Police have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) today in Laliani police station against 16 suspected persons involved in murdering Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Maqsood Bhatti and four others yesterday.

The FIR mentions 10 of the suspects by name while six are unidentified. However, no arrests have been made as yet.

PTI leader Masood Bhatti and his four guards, who were killed in an ambush yesterday, were laid to rest in Kasur on Sunday.

Senior PTI leader Khursheed Kasuri, PTI’s Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry and large numbers of workers attended the funeral prayers.

Ejaz Chaudhy demanded that Punjab government take notice of the killing and arrest the culprits.

Masood Bhatti and his guards were killed when gunmen sprayed their vehicle with bullets at Mustafaabad area of Kasur over what police have described as old enmity. Bhatti was killed along with four other people on Saturday evening when their convoy was ambushed near Kasur.

The attackers, believed to be on motorcycles, had riddled the two cars with bullets. Bhatti was travelling in his SUV along with three guards.

According to police, the attack seems to be motivated by personal enmity.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and had demanded a report from IG police.
