Lahore, Oct. 09 – LCCI President Mian Nauman Kabir said that policies will not yield desired results without due participation of stakeholders.
Talking to the delegations of All Pakistan Paper Merchants Association (APPMA) led by Khamis Saeed Butt and Anarkali Traders Association led by Naeem Khan. LCCI Vice President Haris Ateeq, former LCCI President Mian Shafqat Ali, Executive Committee Member Ali Afzal, Chairman APPMA Ahad Amin Malik, President Hassan Raza Sheikh, Khalid Pervez, Bao Bashir and Khawaja Nadeem Saeed Wain also spoke on the occasion.
Mian Nauman Kabir said that the partnership between the government and the business community will be resulted in a good composition of strong economy. The government should acknowledge the importance of business community and should make its suggestion a part of trade and economic policies.
The LCCI President said that the government and private sector are vital for each other and they cannot run alone. Government must develop policies conducive for business environment and address genuine issues of the business community. He said that business community is driving force of the economy but it cannot play its due role for economic wellbeing of the country while carrying burden of the problems.
LCCI Vice President Haris Ateeq said that there is an urgent need to reform the taxation system by engaging all the stakeholders. He also called to get rid of the double taxation system that is hampering the trade and economic activities in the country.
The LCCI office-bearers said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry will continue its untiring efforts to promote the paper and paperboard sector which is doing a social service by keeping the education in the reach of common man. The LCCI office-bearers said that early resolution of the issues of business community will promote the idea of public-private partnership that is the only way to surmount economic challenges being faced by the country. The Lahore Chamber would continue its untiring efforts in this regard. They said that Lahore Chamber aims to promote trade and investment in the country by implementing the policies of the government and securing a business friendly environment in the country.
They said that government should allocate a sufficient part of development funds for the markets of Lahore where lack of infrastructure, damaged road network, bad sewerage system and traffic problems are hitting the business activities hard.
The LCCI office-bearers informed the visiting delegations that the Lahore Chamber also tries to secure a business-friendly environment through sharing views with the government high ups. In this regard, a meeting with Commissioner Lahore has also been held day before yesterday and he assured to resolve the issues.
They said that the primary objective of LCCI is to protect the interests of the business community while remaining committed to the cause of development of the country. There are a number of issues that must be tackled on priority and the biggest one is how to keep the momentum of growth.
They said that the government should help business community to cope with the challenges. It is not only vital to accelerate the trade and economic activities but is also a must for trust building between the government and the private sector.
The delegation members informed the LCCI office-bearers that Urdu Bazar and Anarkali are among the biggest markets of the country where thousands of traders are doing business and buyers are visiting in miserable conditions. They informed that road network and sewerage system has been damaged and no government department is ready to listen to the traders.
