Lucky Cement Successfully Commissioned 25MW Solar Power Plant

Aug,, 21(E.A Report) — Lucky Cement Limited successfully completed the commissioning of a 25 MW solar power facility at its Karachi manufacturing sites.
The company expressing satisfaction with the project’s timely execution, announcing its operational commencement on August 20, 2023.
With this milestone, the company’s capacity for self-consumption of power generated from renewable sources has now reached 39%. This includes the previous installation of a 34 MW solar power plant in December 2022 at their Pezu manufacturing site, along with Waste Heat Recovery plants at both locations. The combined capacity of these solar power facilities underscores the company’s dedication to renewable and eco-friendly energy.
The investment in these renewable energy ventures is anticipated to bring about cost savings and decrease the nation’s reliance on imported fuels. The company emphasizes its ongoing commitment to pursuing environmentally conscious initiatives in the coming times.
largest cement manufacturer of Pakistan, inform that the Company has entered into an arrangement with Orient Energy Systems (Private) Limited for the supply and installation of 25.3 MW captive solar power project at its Karachi plant.
Estimated cost of the project is PKR 3 Billion and the Company is in the process of establishing LCs for import of equipment which is subject to receiving approval from the SBP. The project is expected to be completed in approximately eight (8) months after the establishment of LC.
This is in addition to the earlier announced 34 MW captive solar power project with a 5.589 MW Reflex energy storage at the Company’s plant in Pezu, Lakki Marwat. Sustainability and adoption of clean energy has remained a cornerstone of the Company’s strategy and it was one of the first cement companies to install waste heat recovery (WHR) units at both its plant sites.
Company’s initiatives for investment in renewable energy projects will play a key role in cost savings as well as reduction of country’s reliance on imported fuel.
After aggressively expanding in Pakistan, the company decided to increase clinker capacity by 1.8 million tons per annum in Iraq, according to company filing to the exchange.
Keeping pace with the increasing demand of cement in Iraq on the back of revival of economic activity, uptick in construction projects and to secure supply of clinker for the Joint Venture (JV) cement grinding facility in Basra, Iraq, the other JV Company of Lucky Cement Limited and AI-Shumookh group, Iraq, [Najmat-AI-Samawah (NAS)), has resolved to enhance its production capacity of clinker in Samawah, Iraq, by adding a new production line of 1.82 million tons per annum (MTPA).
The capacity expansion will significantly enhance the overall efficiencies of business operations as it will play a crucial role in achieving self-reliance in terms of clinker availability within Iraq.
For the said expansion, NAS has entered into an Engineering & Procurement Contract. The construction activity on the project is expected to commence within Q1 FY24 and is expected to be completed in 18 months.
Subsequent to the above addition, the total domestic and international capacities of Lucky Cement Limited will increase to 21.48 million tons per annum (MTPA).
