Washington: As Microsoft unveiled its flagship tablets Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, now company eyeing to introduce its first Mini tablet Microsoft Surface Mini.

Recent reports claimed earlier this year that the device will be available at the end of this year.

Now reliable source is reporting the device will see a spring 2014 debut with ARM processors.

Microsoft just announced the follow-ups to its first-generation Surface tablets with the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. The tablets look virtually identical to their predecessors, but offer some new features Microsoft is hoping consumers will find appealing enough to choose over Apple’s iPad.

According to “Techno Tribe” Microsoft is also looking to go after Apple’s iPad mini by introducing a Surface Mini. The tablet was recently reported to be launching sometime this year, but consumers are going to have to wait a little bit longer for Microsoft’s iPad mini competitor.

According to a new report from ZDNET, Microsoft will not be releasing a Surface Mini this year, but will make it available in early 2014.

Microsoft’s roadmap in the past says the Surface Mini is coming, but not in calendar 2013. Supposedly, this source claims, Microsoft is going to launch the Surface Mini in early 2014. The reason? The Surface Mini is going to come preloaded with a Windows 8.1 update, that is codenamed “Spring 2014 GDR.”, according to Mary Jo Foley.

The report also claims that the Surface Mini will use an ARM processor because it offers better price points and longer battery life, instead of using more expensive Intel chips. Current rumors claim the Surface Mini will run Windows RT just like the Surface 2 and feature a 7.5-inch display with a resolution of 1400 x 1050 and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The Surface Mini is also expected to come in Wi-Fi and 4G LTE + Wi-Fi models, just like the Surface 2 will.

If this report is true, Microsoft will be releasing its iPad mini 2 competitor several months after Apple will have already shipped and sold millions of its upcoming tablet. As always, take these kinds of reports with a big grain of salt. Microsoft has yet to announce plans for a Surface Mini tablet, which means it’s all in the rumors state for now.
