With over 500 million downloads on Apple’s App Store and Google Play store, Candy Crush Saga was the most downloaded free app of 2013.
The addictive game, created by the King company based in London, England,was launched last year.
Not only was it the most downloaded free game but was also the top-earning app in 2013. Last year was a busy one for the Apple’s App Store and Google Play with billions of downloads. The vast majority of downloads in 2013 were in the communication, entertainment and gaming sectors.
Other top downloads in 2013 included the photo and video sharing app Snapchat, which was the sixth most popular download on the Apple App Store.
The old favourites, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, all recorded huge growths in 2013. However the absolute winner in 2013 was the game Candy Crush for iPhone, Android and Kindle Fire. The creators of the game reported that around 20 million people were playing the game in the US in October of 2013.
The game is also the most popular app on Facebook, where it has over 100 million users. And 2014 could be another record year for the industry.
