MQM unconditional support for PML-N hurts PPP

KARACHI: Pakistan’s second largest mandate holder and opposition political party, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), got detriment from its provincial ally Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) when it announced ‘unconditional support’ for Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) presidential nominee on Friday.

MQM officially announced its “unconditional support” for ruling party PML-N candidate Mamnoon Hussain in the upcoming presidential elections instead of boycotting like its opposition allies Pakistan People Party, Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (ANP).

PPP has not showed any reaction after MQM’s announcement but its opposition partner MQM gave them shock on which they were relying and expecting the favour in boycotting the presidential election.

Sources said that MQM’s decision will affect the collaborative relationship with PPP in near future as they both are ruling partners in Sindh province.

However, the announcement made by MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi in a press conference at the party’s ‘Nine-Zero’ headquarters situated at Azizabad area of Karachi.

PML-N delegation, including the finance minister Ishaq Dar, Mamnoon Hussain and Information Minister Pervez Rasheed, successfully gained the confidence of MQM, the largest political party in Karachi, for his presidential nominee and offered them to join federal coalition government.

MQM replied to give final answer after consulting with the party’s senior leadership while the delegation spoke with Sindh governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad via telephone.

PML-N presidential candidate ensured MQM for provision of equilateral attention to all political parties after being elected and especially helpful for resolving Karachi problem as it is the main economical hub of Pakistan.

Despite discussing several other political reservations, the talks were happened in delightful manner between both parties.

PML-N belonged leader Ishaq Dar presented ‘unique’ desired while talking with MQM chief Altaf Hussain to refresh the memories by  having two traditional Pakistani dishes ‘Haleem’ and ‘Pakoray’.

Earlier, opposition party Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) announced to boycott presidential elections after putting serious allegations over the Supreme Court and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

On the other side, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) accepted the challenge of its political opponents in the presidential race and announced to take part in the election with its candidate Justice (Retd.) Wajihuddin Ahmad.
