PP-150 Lahore vote recount turns fruitful for PTI Mehar Wajid

LAHORE: The protest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) proved to be fruitful as its candidate on PP-150, in the provincial capital of eastern province of Punjab, Mehar Wajid likely to beat his political rival in the by-polls.

Initial results of vote recounting showed winning of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Mian Marghoob Ahmed in the by-election as ECP conducted vote recounting on 33 polling stations out of 147 in the said constituency.

Suddenly, the electoral scenario turned favourable of PTI’s candidate after completion of vote recounting on 99 polling stations, sources said.

According to recent unofficial results, PTI candidate Mehar Wajid secured 12,519 votes while Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N)’s candidate, Mian Marghoob Ahmed, got 12,105 votes with difference of 414 votes from his opponent.

ECP officials have stopped the recounting process which will will be resumed tomorrow in remaining 48 polling stations.

PML-N candidate Mian Marghoob expressed confidence over the process and said that he will accept results announced by ECP.

It should be mentioned that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s Marghoob Ahmed had declared winner over the seat by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) but the supporters of PTI have blocked the Mall Road, the artery of the city, on the issue, resulting in arrest of its provincial leader and other office bearers.

The ECP, on appeal of PTI, held a recount over all the polling stations of th constituence.
