SC to give verdict today over SHC decision regarding to nullify SLGA amendment

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) is all set to given verdict on Sindh High court decision to nullify Sindh Local Government Act (SLGA) 2013.

The government filed a civil petition at the Karachi Registry of the apex court, seeking grant of leave to appeal against the Sindh High Court (SHC)’s Dec 30 verdict on as many as 17 petitions filed by political parties and former legislators.

 

On Tuesday, February 11, the SC had given its observation that the full bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani will give verdict on Wednesday

Advocate General Sindh Fateh Malik had requested to postpone the case as delayed tactics, but the court rejected the request and given order to Sindh government lawyer Farooq H Naik to give his arguments.

Naik in his arguments requested to nullify the SHC verdict and said that according to constitution it was right of provincial government to do delimitation and election commission of Pakistan (ECP) has authorize to conduct elections.

Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) consul Farogh Naseem viewed that same point was raised in Sindh High court but the high court declared that limitations should be carried out by neutral commission.

Naik said provincial government had given guidelines but they didn’t effect on delimitation, on this CJ said delimitation have been carried out under the rules and rules were created according to Law.

Justice Shiekh Azmat Saeed said that informed us on which rules delimitation were conducted in Karachi.

CJ said it seemed that rules had not been followed.
