Swedish Ruling Party Is Holding Webinar on Kashmir Issue

Stockholm( EA Report)The ruling party of Sweden, the Social Democrat party, is holding an online discussion on the Kashmir issue. The main speaker of the event is the Member of Swedish Parliament Mr. Serkan Kose, who is a strong voice for the rights of Kashmiri people and has been presenting a resolution in the Parliament on the human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for many years. He will be joined by Emma Brannlund, a Swedish lecturer on International relations and author of a forthcoming book on Kashmir. The discussion will be moderated by Ruben Wagman, a member of the International Committee of the Social Democrat party, who is also a prominent trade union leader and activist.
The panel discussion, which will be held online in Swedish language, will be available for all party workers and general public to follow, and is part of the party’s programme to educate its members on major international issues.
Talking about the Swedish foreign policy, Pakistani Ambassador to Stockholm Zahood Ahmed said that Sweden has also always been calling for upholding human rights all over the world. It terms its foreign policy as a feminist foreign policy. It is for this reason that Kashmir issue as a human rights issue resonates in Sweden.
Recently, two resolutions on the situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) have been presented by two MPs of ruling Social Democrat Party in the Swedish Parliament for discussion. The Parliament will soon debate on these Motions. The Motions by MP Serkan Kose refers to the decades’ long ‘conflict in the Kashmir region,’ and highlights the illegal actions of 5 August 2019 saying that ‘since the change in the constitution, life has been disastrous for 8 million people.’ It also talks about the high number of Indian troops in Kashmir, ‘which is now the most militarized region in the world’. It also underscores the restrictions of communications, mobile networks and the Internet and public gatherings.’ The Motion also states that ‘Depriving an entire population of their right to freedom of expression, opinion and movement for an indefinite period is contrary to international human rights conventions.’ It calls on the Indian Government to end the blockade of Kashmir and the crackdown on human rights. It also urges the Indian government to stop its collective punishment of the people of Kashmir. The Motion terms the situation as grave and critical and calls upon all parties do their part for a peaceful solution and allowing the people of Kashmir to decide their future.
The other Motion by MP Johan Buser refers to that fact that ‘the protracted conflict between the two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan, which makes Kashmir a dangerous conflict both from a human rights as well as security policy perspective.’ The Motion refers to ‘Swedish foreign policy’s support for peace, reconciliation, human rights and the fundamental right to freedom of expression. It calls upon both the Indian and Pakistani governments to engage in dialogue to create a sustainable peace solution and reconciliation process….’ In conclusion by urging ‘the Swedish government, to give its full support to a resolution of the conflict, which is of utmost importance to enable a peace process.’
