Yaum-e-Ali: Mobile phone services to remain shut in various cities of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to thwart terrorists’ plans of attacking processions on the occasion of Yaum-e-Ali, the government has decided to suspend mobile phone services in various cities across the country on Wednesday.

Reports from various sources suggest that wireless services will also be banned in sensitive areas of the country including Lahore and Rawalpindi.

The sources said that the mobile phone service to remains suspended in Lahore from 4am to 8pm, Rawalpindi from 4am to 6pm, Sheikhupura  from 7am to 4pm, Kasur from  7am to 1pm  and  Sialkot from 7am to 3pm.

Sources in Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said that the directions pertaining to the closer of the service had been conveyed the mobile phone service providers.

This is not the first time the government is imposing a suspension, as people in certain parts of the country had faced it previously on Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Ashura and on New Year’s Eve.
