Manning guilty of espionage but not ‘aiding enemy’

FORT MEADE, Maryland: A US military judge found Wikileaks’ source Private Bradley Manning guilty of several counts of espionage on Tuesday but cleared him of the charge that he ‘aided the enemy.’ Despite being cleared on the most serious charge, Manning will still face a lengthy prison term for his breaches of the espionage act when a sentencing hearing begins Wednesday. In all, Manning was found guilty of 20 of 22 counts related to his leaking of a huge trove of secret US diplomatic cables, government records and military logs to the Wikileaks website. Miltary judge Colonel Denise Lind said that she would begin sentencing hearings the next day, at the Fort Meade military base outside Washington where the trial was held....

Spain train driver on phone at time of accident: court

MADRID: The driver of a train that derailed in Spain killing 79 people was speaking on his work phone at the time of the accident and appeared to consult a map, a court said Tuesday after analysing the train’s data recorders. “Minutes before the train came off the tracks he received a call on his work phone to get indications on the route he had to take to get to Ferrol. From the content of the conversation and background noise it seems that the driver consulted a map or paper document,” a court statement said. UK ‘porn’ filter to censor violence, alcohol and more

LONDON: The United Kingdom’s new internet filters will not only block porn but also violence, alcohol, terrorism, smoking and ‘esoteric material’.   According to the digital advocacy organization Open Rights Group’s report cited by Huffington Post, the new “parental controls” will reach far beyond pornography.
